Each day of this month, Rebecca and her friends are posting thankful thoughts. This morning, I’ll join them by posting someone else’s thankful thought, one I found that my Aunt Lucy wrote years ago.
Aunt Lucy was my great-aunt, my grandmother’s sister. She was confined to a bed for decades. I remember going to visit her sometimes–I wish now that it would have been more–and her holding a mirror up to the opposite side of her face so that she could see the person she was talking to. In my memory, she was the sweetest woman alive. That’s how my dad remembers her, too. She was always happy and never complained.
Aunt Lucy kept a diary for years. And in 1982, she wrote the history of the Martin family. Here’s her description of herself:
Lucy Ann Martin, second daughter.
Born August 11, 1905 in Fannin County. Went to school; at the age of 18 took arthritis rheumatism, have been an invalid for 50 years. I can crochet, embroider, and sew, write letters for past time, too. I thank my Lord for letting me be able to do that much.
